Why Tersus?

We get asked that question a lot and the short answer is because results matter. Tersus is a Latin verb meaning to clean, cleanse, or wipe away, and that is what we do.  Tersus cleans properties to eliminate or wipe away environmental liabilities.  By providing a quick remedial solution to persistent environmental liabilities, Tersus is able to provide our clients with resolution fast.

Tersus provides a proven track record of applying innovative technologies for in situ remediation.  Our team of professionals has the experience and know-how to implement complex treatment options in the most challenging field conditions.  Our success has been built on knowledge of proper and effective implementation of various in situ treatment technologies.  Better application of the proper technology leads to better results, and ultimately closure for our clients.

At Tersus, we are not selling just one approach for all sites, but we take the time to evaluate what alternatives would be effective and how to properly apply the approach at each site.  Remedial options utilized by Tersus typically include chemical oxidation, reductive precipitation, surfactant enhanced recovery techniques and other in situ treatment options.  Some of the advantages of our approach are:

  • Cost Effective – cost for in situ cleanups are comparable or less than other technologies

  • Speed - results are often in months as opposed to years or decades for other technologies

  • Safety - chemicals used for regents are commonly inorganic acids or bases and food grade quality, with no harsh or explosive reactions

  • Preserves Infrastructure - no floor or building removal, no large excavations, no utility destruction or replacement

  • Small Remedial Footprint - treatment fluid tanks can be portable and injections wells can be flush mounted and small diameter, to leave remedial areas usable and productive if necessary

  • Permanence - in situ remediation will completely destroy a wide range of organic chemicals, including phase separated non aqueous liquids, as well as permanently reduce hexavalent chrome

  • No Future Liability – no more worry about future changes in land use or re-openers from a future changes in cleanup standards

  • Green Remediation - in situ remediations use less energy, generate no hazardous intermediate chemicals or by products, so are considered a more sustainable practice

  • Generate No Superfund Liability - in situ remediation does not move hazardous chemicals from the release to a landfill

  • Can Clean Low Permeable Clay Soils - soils so tight standard remedial technologies are not able to reach the contaminants

  • Can Remove Recalcitrant and Emerging Chemicals – because the technology shears carbon bonds it can destroy chemicals other technologies leave behind
